We at San Diego Shark Diving Expeditions, Inc. feel strongly about sustainable use of in particular the ocean environment. While we divers enjoy all the wonderful discoveries and amazing animals we encounter, we also have the obligation to do all we can to preserve and protect this very special environment that really breathes life into our planet.

In fact, everyone has this obligation, and there are many ways to learn how you can help. You don’t have to get adegree in marine biology or anything of that sort, you can still help! There’s so much that can be done on a national and worldwide level, but you can start by helping within your own community as well. So much of the ocean environment it still undiscovered, we must do everything we can to protect it.

That’s why we are proud to be donors to the Shark Research Institute ( ) and the San Diego Oceans Foundation ( ).

We wanted to do more than just send in money, so we have teamed with Dr. Michael Domier of the Marine Science Conservation Institute, ( ) to provide his research project with images and field notes on the Great White Sharks seen at Guadalupe Island by our diving guests.

During the latter half of the 2002 Great White Shark season, our sharp-eyed wrangler, Jessie “Sharkchik†Harper, began collecting images from our divers and taking field notes on the markings and behaviours of individual White Sharks. We have now identified and named 105 different Great White Sharks at Guadalupe Island. During our trips we carry a binder with images of each named shark showing left, right, tail, dorsal fin, and frontal views. We hope to educate our guests about the sharks at this very special destination and encourage them to take action, either by donating to their favorite ocean conservation or research organization or participating in one of the projects themselves.
